Building a Fence
For those that don’t know, I am a nurse. I graduated with my LVN in 2016 and then graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2021. I work on a Med-Surge Neuro unit at at a hospital in the town I live in. This week I had a patient who only truly talked about his dogs. He was in the hospital needing some treatment but was so worried about his pups back home. He told me that he rescues dogs and treats them like royalty and it brings the most joy in his life. He shared that he used to own his own company and was a millionaire, had all the money in the world, but was absolutely miserable. His exact words to me were “Money is great if you can make it doing what you love but doing something you hate and becoming rich off of it? Not worth it for a second. It will drive you into misery. I have hardly any money now and I am the happiest I’ve ever been. It’s just me and my dogs and I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
I loved taking care of this patient. He was just one of those people- easy to talk to and had such a positive outlook on life. Of course, when he spoke about his dogs, I told him about my animals too. He asked if I let my cats outside and I shared that I don’t because I’m so nervous they’ll run away, get ran over, or get picked up by the SPCA. Libby LOVES to go outside. I take her outside on a leash sometimes. The issue with that though is that once I take her out on a leash once, she wants to be outside the entire day. Therefore she will sit at the back door and meow until the sun goes down and I am not exaggerating. As I was telling my patient this, he informed me that I should build a pin for my cats to play in outside. I halfway thought he was joking. He wasn’t. The next time I came into his room he had conjured an entire blueprint of how it would look, the dimensions, and the supplies I would need.
I asked him, “You’re serious aren’t you?” and he said, “Absolutely! If they want to be outside they deserve to go outside!” Talk about mom guilt. lol Anyway, I left work really considering. I told my patient I would look into it and that he’s out here changing the world for pets. I thought it was sweet that he cared at all. I came home and spoke with Brad about it and to my surprise, he agreed. So here we are making plans to build a play pin for my cats to go play in outside. I’ll 100% keep y’all updated once the project is finished!
